RSL champions being a good corporate citizen by upholding its commitment to producing safe and high-quality products.

Since the company produces a variety of edible salts and supplies a number of major players in the Nigerian food industry, quality control and compliance with regulatory standards is vital.

With collaboration with relevant national regulatory agencies, RSL meets its legal regulatory compliance duties and in fact sets the standards in many countries it operates in.

RSL has demonstrated its commitment to corporate responsibility by not just carrying out its basic legal obligations for regulatory compliance, but going to extra mile even when compliance has been a complex challenge.

CORPORATE SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY.

In addition to giving back to society, RSL approaches corporate social responsibility (CSR) by ensuring the delivery of safe and efficient products to customers which provide significant health and well-being benefits.

With partnerships with the Federal Ministry of Health, World Health Organization and UNICEF, RSL has improved the general well-being of the Nigerian population by pioneering programmes
that bolster.

Partnership on Goitre Control and Eradication
  • The Federal Ministry of Health observed a high incidence of iodine deficiency in Nigeria.
  • The disease of goitre was rising astronomically in the country, with millions of children impacted with mental and neurological impairments.
  • The Ministry, WHO and UNICEF, decided that salt iodization was the solution, with NAFDAC responsible for ensuring that only iodized salt is sold in Nigeria.
  • Ordinarily, iodized refined salt is usually not available on the international market and with RSL being the leading salt manufacturer in the country, UNICEF invited RSL to participate in the programme.
  • UNICEF and RSL worked together to develop the relevant fortification and evolve the refining process that will incorporate iodine into edible salt.
  • As a result of the collaborative effort of RSL, iodized salt is now widely available in Nigeria, with the Universal Salt Iodization Programme awarded Nigeria a compliance certificate for the programme.
